Bush Hospital Foundation - Jersey to Monte Carlo - Day 6
Hi all,
Well, first job of the day was to find petrol – which we did – well, at least I think it was petrol – difficult to tell when you can’t speak Italian! Anyway, bit of a relief to find it as it transpired we only had 2 litres left in the tank – probably enough for about 8 miles on the roads we were on – i.e. mountain passes!
So we left Santo Stefano D’Aveto...
... our first stop being Pisa
(which is such a tourist spot, absolutely FULL of stalls, tourists & people trying to sell you real Rolex watches – not unlike being in a Motorway Service Station in fact!)...
... then through a lovely quaint little medieval town called San Gimignano, through Sienna, through Pitigliano, then after driving down about 6km of gravel & stone track (I kid you not – it was a real road, but you’d never have believed it), we rejoined the main road, stopped for some dinner and eventually managed to find an Agritourism (apparently Italy’s equivalent of B&B)
Even that took us three attempts and more gravel tracks – everyone we stopped at had double rooms but no twin rooms!
Finally by 22.30, we agreed to become friendlier, and in the interests of sleep requirements, took the next double room that we found by the wayside – a snip at 52 euros! (Mike is actually sleeping on a layer of sleeping bags on the floor – well, its only fair, after all, I had to take the single bed last night – what comes around goes around and all that!)
Today we have travelled 333 miles (precise enough?), have seen some fantastic parts of Italy..
(someones built an Italian villa in the middle of the XP desktop...)
To date, we have driven on all surfaces from Grand Prix circuits to rough road tracks..
And filled up again – this time with real fuel – Shell have this petrol over here called V-Power – its apparently 99 octane!!
A few pics attached for your continued enjoyment – on the GSM modem again tonight so just a few (well what do you expect – this room doesn’t even have a shower curtain – just a bucket and mop!)
Until the next instalment….
Garry and Mike
