Bush Hospital Foundation - Jersey to Monte Carlo - Day 1

Hi all,

Well here we are in Blois, 235 miles away from St Malo – well, it was the way we drove – somehow others managed to do it in under 200miles – but hey, we took the scenic route (courtesy of GPS & MS Autoroute 2002 – which incidentally is working brilliantly!).

Unfortunately, Davina McCall couldn’t make it down the harbour as her boat from the UK to Jersey was cancelled the previous day due to bad weather, however my sister benefited from her absence and became the official ‘hander outer of clues’ to the drivers as they boarded the boat!

Its all about being in the right place at the right time – I think some people probably thought she was Davina anyway!

Went down a fantastic ‘C’ road, but it was inhabited by loads of mad dogs whose only intention in life was to jump in front on oncoming vehicles – which they obviously didn’t see very often – else they’d only have done it the once!

At the end of the first day, we are 30 points behind the leaders – in equal 10th position – total of 315 points – which is 30 points behind the leader (3 joint leaders..) – and that’s having got all of the clues during the day correct – lost all the points on 3 questions of the boat leg – but hey, lets not be downhearted!!

We now have a full tank of fuel ready for tomorrow’s trip, which should be slightly less hectic, as we start at 9am, rather than midday – to do similar mileage….. and apparently through some very ‘windy and treacherous roads’ - so that will be fun!

Today was a Labour Day holiday in France, which meant we barely managed to find anywhere open for lunch, and didn’t get to have a coffee all day (except for breakfast in Jersey)

Someone in a one day old BMW Z8 has managed to have a collision with one of the locals, so he isn’t best pleased!
