Bush Hospital Foundation - Jersey to Monte Carlo - Day 4

Hello everybody!

Well here we are, safe and sound in Monaco.

As mentioned yesterday, today’s leg of the trip was a Scavenger hunt, so we left Arles first thing this morning, made our first stop in Aix en Provence (what a dump!), next stop was Cannes..

but it was a bit cloudy, so we drove straight through..

...and then arrived in Monte Carlo at 5.15pm – unfortunately the deadline for handing in our scavenger hunt sheets was 5pm, so we incurred 25 penalty points.

Below is a list of things we had to collect:

  1. A photo of your team standing on a floating luxury yacht (50 points)

2. A copy of The Herald Tribune dated May 2nd 2002 (25 points)

3. A copy of a membership card for a French Political party (40 points)

4. A tailors fabric swatch (30 points)

5. A Union Jack (20 points)

6. A picture of Mickey Mouse (20 points)

7. A sprig of lavender (15 points)

8. A picture of the Queen Mother (20 points)

9. A plastic fish (10 points)

10. A ribbed condom (20 points)

Quite entertaining, as you can imagine, asking for some of these things, and others were almost impossible to find – for love or money!
Doesn’t appear that anyone in France is actually a member of any political party, so as the picture shows, we had to resort to ‘creative’ tactics. (we got half points for trying!)

We were still in Cannes at 4.30pm trying to make membership cards, develop photo’s, and download pictures of the Queen Mother off the Internet (if anyone has ever used a French keyboard, they’ll know its nothing like a UK one!), so bit of a dash to get here (Via the Nurbergring...)

...but nearly there now..

and we were soon seeing Monaco unfold before us..

...and a lovely 5 Star hotel awaited our arrival.

We’ve just got back from our evening meal and the prize giving ceremony, and the final score sheets says we’ve managed an outstanding 9th position!! Still, nice prize of a pile of CD’s, so at least we can change the music at last.

Don’t worry; we’ll aim to be back on form in time for next year; we're just happy because this place has a modem connection...

...and a well stocked mini-bar...

We have covered approximately 930 miles since leaving Jersey on Wednesday morning.

Tomorrow we will spend the day in Monaco having a good look around, and get some pictures of the Grand Prix circuit amongst other things, and then we are heading off into Italy late afternoon.

We’ll try to continue to keep you updated of our location when we can – but if anyone is getting fed up with downloading our emails, just reply to this message and I can easily take your name off the distribution list!

Until the next one…..

Garry and Mike
