Gallery Rally — Jersey to Saint-Tropez 2012
Welcome to Day 7 - near Sinshein to Reims
Hello everybody.
Tonight we come to you from a Hotel Campanile in a town called Taissy, near Reims.
Those of you following our progress will know that last night we stopped in a guest house in Germany.
The morning started like any other - well, except this morning we awoke to the Formula One theme tune. Well, the one used by the BBC anyway. Which for all you music aficionados is of course 'The Chain' by Fleetwood Mac.
Anyway, you get the idea.
After a fine German breakfast, which surprisingly didn't consist of any sausage, but did include the most perfectly boiled eggs! (is there anything the Germans aren't good at?), there was just time to admire the view from our hotel window...
...pack up the car, wave goodbye to our nights accomodation..
and began to head for our next destination.
Just as we were setting off, we heard an ENORMOUS amount of noise from jet engines, and looked out of the window, to see a Concorde and a Tupolev T144 having a race....
We followed them for a bit, and stumbled across a magnificent museum - The 'Auto & Technik museum' in Sinsheim.
We tracked down the pilot, who agreed to let me take a 747 for a test drive, to see how it compared to the Evo..
We spent 5 very interesting hours at this place. They have everything - planes, trains, automobiles, a whole F1 section, and even a IMAX cinema, where we enjoyed a German version of Leonardo DiCaprio narrating a documentary on the Hubble Space telescope. Cleverly they had dubbed everything into German, including the Mission control radio transmissions!
We came away from that film fully believing that Germans had launched the Hubble Telescope mission's onboard their Space Shuttles!
Here are a few taster pics from the museum - but really, you just need to get yourselves to Germany to experience it - a great day out - if you're interested in that sort of thing! http://sinsheim.technik-museum.de/en
Just in case you were thinking Mike had mastered the art of Tilt-Shift photography, the picture above is actually a model showing how they transported the Concorde up the Rhein to the Museum in 2003.
Anyway, as it was now nearly 3.30pm, and we had only done about a mile since breakfast, so time to hit the road again and burn some more petrol down those German Autobahns.
We were having so much fun that we suddenly started seeing signs to Paris...
Just before 5pm, we started to see signs to suggest we were in another country...
So after a short days driving (only 270miles today - mind you we didnt leave the museum until 3.15pm and we arrived at our hotel at 7.30pm, so made good progress!), we arrived at our hotel, had a pleasant meal in the restaurant next door, and then retired to our room to make plans for tomorrows drive back to St.Malo and subsequently, if all goes well, to Jersey!
Here is today's route for your viewing pleasure!
