Gallery Rally — Jersey to Saint-Tropez 2012

Welcome to Day 6 - Sufers to (near) Sinshein

Good evening to anyone still following our progress. Or should I say , Willkommen!

But lets not skip to the end yet - last time you heard from us we were of course in Switzerland - and just to prove it, here is the hotel we stayed the night in...

This morning we awoke to the familiar theme tune of Captain Pugwash. What a way to start the day! And when we looked out of our window, it just got better, as this was the view we were faced with...

After admiring them for a while, we headed down to breakfast at 9.30, which consisted (for me at least) mainly of eggs! Boiled ones - eventually. The lady in our hotel kindly took great pains to explain exactly how the egg machine worked, only to forget to put water in it, thus I waited ten minutes for a cold runny egg. Take 2 went much better I am pleased to say, but it did delay our departure a little!

After checking out and packing up the car we hit the road - and some ridge-racer style roads..

As one of our sponsors was Eco-Active, we thought it important to prove we could infact do an eco-drive through the mountains..

(who said Evo's weren't economical?? Note to self: this can't last)

We drove on, and discovered presumably the place where Chip met Heidi...

As we had been in Switzerland for nearly a day now, we felt it prudent to change countries, and after stopping for petrol, decided to pop in to an old favourite for a coffee...

This place is a must if you are ever in the area, it really is beautiful, and there is something here for everyone..

It appears even the composer Rheinberger must have been born here.. (something that will interest my Dad!)

After a brief walk around to admire the sites...

...we headed back into Switzerland. Before long we were bored again, so time for another country..

This was fine initially, but then we realised that we'd managed to get on the Austrian motorway without having purchased an Austrian Vignette, so we decided to flee for the next border.

Once across the border, we realised we had inadvertantly strayed on to the Autobahn. This was not going to do our previous eco-drive plans any good at all...

(told you it wouldn't last .....)

As it appeared the Eco-drive idea was looking like it was at risk of being a flash in the pan if we hung about on the Autobahn for too long, we decided there was nothing for it but to try and escape them as quickly as possible....

"Don't spare the horses" cried Mike. So I didn't.

Matt@TRL; Please can we raise the rev limiter? Just a little? It keeps getting in the way!

Having escaped those evil motorways to the green and pleasant hills of beyond, we decided to stop for a bit of local sausage...

Now thats a proper sausage! Even Mike agreed!

As luck would have it, we had stopped for lunch right nex tdoor to Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle

Neuschwanstein Castle is famous (to us at least!) for being used in the filming of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and we had a very interesting guided tour around the castle, learning about its history, how it had been designed by King Ludwig II who went insane by the age of 40 (not surprising, given how many people he must have been project managing to build it - its still not finished now!), how he was good friends with Richard Wagner (most of his operas seemed to be based on things at this castle!) and many many other fascinating facts and figures. But not a word about Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or Dick van Dyke!

After that very interesting interlude to our days' driving, it was time to head back to the car and burn some more eco-petrol. So we stopped to fill up with it again, to ensure we had plenty to be eco with.

Tank full, and back on the road, we hit plenty of rain - which was probably for the best, as it curtailed our ability to cruise at particularly silly speeds a little!

As night fall was fast approaching, we decided it was time to search for a bed for the night, and after a brief look around the area, we stumbled across a charming little place called Gasthaus Sonne. (www.sonnenwirt.de for anyone interested!)

Not only did they have a room for us, they also had a restaurant serving some delicious food - and we were privilidged to be allowed to join the locals to watch them beat the Netherlands 2-1 in the Euro 2012 qualifiers. What could possibly have been better??? (the large German beers did help a little)

They do also have internet access, but we have been warned they don't get high speed internet for 6 weeks - so we have no idea how long uploading is going to take tonight! We'll give it our best shot though!

For your added enjoyment, as always, here is the days route...

So, other than getting this all published for your mild amusement, thats about it for tonight - join us tomorrow to see if and where we get to next, in the continuing adventures of Garry and Mike's European tour 2012!

P.S. As always, anyone who that would still like to sponsor Jersey Hospice Care on our behalf, please click the link and follow the instructions listed <<here>>

And of course, keep those Guest Book comments coming in!!! Thank you all for your kind and witty comments to date!

Until tomorrow... Good night from us both!
