Day 07 –Middelfart to Gavelborg

Owing to an email problem last night, not all of you will be aware that we actually had a Day 6! But hopefully Jerseymail have sorted themselves out and just in case they haven't, we've resent the message anyway!

Those of you in the know would have already gone to http://www.ctscomputing.com/rally and seen links to each day though.. Wouldn't you?!

Anyway, enough of all that… what can we tell you about today…

Well let's see, we left the Hotel in Denmark at around 10.30am, crossed over the bridge between the islands of Odense and Zealand

…then started following signs for Sweden

…then we crossed the fabulous Oresun bridge and Tunnel between Copenhagan and Malmo..

We passed many of these signs…

…stopped off for lunch at a popular Swedish favourite…

…passed a few of these on the way…

…got buzzed by a few low flying planes as we passed the Saab base…

…and after a quick coffee in a local coffee shop…

…where we found a contender for next years Tour vehicle…

…we put the pedal to the metal (well, a fraction of the way down…) and covered some serious miles. We finally arrived in our Hotel in Sweden at around 9pm. We've covered 664 miles today, and are currently here:

Some of you may be interested to know we are now above the level of John O'Groats – just a lot further East!

We crossed the border into Sweden at around 11.45am.

Driving in Sweden is a complete contrast to Germany; there are speed limits for a start!!

Motorways are limited to 110km/h (that's 68.35083114 Mph for all you non-metric folk) – and unlike everywhere else in the world, they ALL seem to keep to it. It's SO slow compared to the previous days driving – but in its favour, you do tend to keep much more consistent speeds going, as a result of which, in similar time scales to yesterday, we actually travelled marginally further. Probably helped that we didn't have to stop for petrol every 5 minutes or for Mike to change his underwear!

On the subject of fuel, we did find Shell V-Power in Sweden, but confusion reined (and they all got wet..) We had the choice of V-Power 97, or Super Unleaded 98. This is illogical captain.

If any of you clever folk out there can explain which I should have chosen, then gratitude will be forthcoming!

I refused to choose between higher octane and clever marketing ploys, so went to the next garage instead. This just added more confusion and more choices of fuel!

So, tomorrow we expect to cross the border into Norway and hopefully reach the Arctic circle.

Tonight's hotel however is by far the best since leaving DC's; not only does it have Wireless internet access, it has FREE wireless internet access. The Scandic range of hotels MUST be commended. Please visit their website – I'm sure you will all agree its beautifully written. http://www.scandic-hotels.se/SiteHomePage

Here follows our day's route as by popular demand (well I think a couple of you mentioned it was worth doing).

Until the next update, it just remains to say "God natt och sova brunn!"
