Gallery Rally—Jersey to Geneva 2010

Day 5 with Garry and James

After finally getting to bed at 4am Tuesday morning, a slightly more leisurely start was on the cards today—but not that leisurely as we really wanted to get on the road around 10am so we could get some miles under our belt before darkness set in!
So bleary eyed, and after a pleasant breakfast with stunning views to admire.........

.....we packed our bags and began the long walk down the corridor to the lift..

long corridor

Before long (well after a while of searching for Matt and Rob in the Subaru, as we were driving down together), we finally packed up the cars and made our way out into the busy roads of Geneva, and were on the road sometime before 11am, battling with one way streets and dodging trams racing BMW's from the lights...

First stop after successfully navigating our way out of the city centre was for fuel, and you can imagine my delight when the first garage we came across was a Shell selling 100 Octage V-Power

Car's filled up and ready to go and we were soon heading out of Switzerland, being very careful not to go on the motorways as none of us had a Vignette, and before long were crossing back into France, and hitting the very expensive but highly efficient French Autoroutes.

The rest of the day was pretty much spent in garages...

...having a kick-around....

And of course driving. Lots of driving.

By 7.45pm, we had covered the 570 miles between Geneva and St Malo. Pretty good we thought, given that the whole trip had been around 1350 miles over 5days!

We checked into a nearby Ibis, ready for a quiet night before the 8am boat back to Jersey.

This morning saw us up at 6am, checked in for the boat by 6.45am, and boarded, ready to set sail an hour later.

Soon after that, I woke up and we were back in Jersey!

So that ends the 2010 Gallery Rally to Geneva!

There is of course Day 5's route at the bottom of the page...

And the over-all route for the whole trip is available here

So all that remains are the credits!

A big thanks to every one involved;

Chip and Heidi for another wonderful set of clues for the week and finding us some wonderful locations to drive through,

Ben from Gallery magazine for all his hard work organisation,

Of course to all our fellow competitors—a great bunch of people once again!

To Matt at TRL for his quick response to what our technical problem was on Day 4—and of course to the mechanic from the Isle of Man at the Renault Dealership in Champagnille for being so helpful and getting straight to work on our problem!

To everyone who sponsored us—and even to those that didn't—but don't forget, you still can do by clicking here: http://www.jerseyhospicecare.com/site/tools/donate.aspx?amount=sponsor

To everyone that has read the updates and to those that have participated by leaving their amusing thoughts and good luck wishes on the guest book (still open for any messages you wish to leave here: http://galleryrally.hopto.org/guestbook/post.asp )

A big thanks to our major sponsors for sponsoring us once again this year, - CTS Computing and Computer Protec— and just in case you had forgotten what the car looked like covered in their names, here is a picture to remind you!

And finally, a big thanks to James for his help, with some excellent clue solving, navigation and sat nav programming skills being shown; by the end of the trip, we even had my in-car Sat nav and James' Tom Tom agreeing with each other!

I look forward to spamming you all again with daily updates next year in the 2011 Rally (destination as yet unknown!) and rumour has it, Mike is expecting to be back in his usual seat in the car for it!

Until then, goodbye!
