Day 5 - Barcelona to Foix
Wed, 01/07/2009 - 00:53 — Garry Taylor
Welcome to Day 5’s update. Technically it’s the second update of the day, as Day 4’s wasn’t finished till gone lunchtime today, but please don’t hold that against us.
We had a bit of a lie-in today, setting the alarm for 9.30am, before enjoying the views out of our balcony again – just in time to see Mikes new yacht pull into the port...
Evidentally, mine must have been delayed en-route.
After a shower, it was time for breakfast, where we tucked into good old eggs and bacon, followed by coffee..
...after which, we said our tearful goodbyes..
...then about 3 hours later, after Mike had found a bimbo..
..and took a few moody shots of and around the hotel....
..and I got on with the updates..
...we finally left the hotel.
It was by now 3pm, and we had decided the day’s clue was “go find snow, but how many balls appear to be in flight?” – not that likely given that as we drove out of Barcelona, the temperature was 35 deg C!
Co-incidentally, as we left, my new yacht arrived, but theres no time to hang around, so we'll just have to get it next time..
Anyway, we set off on our task, headed for Andorra, and enjoyed some nice sights on the way..
By now we had been driving for an hour or so, were well on our way to Andorra, enjoying some much improved weather..
..so we decided to stop for a late lunch at a pleasant Spanish cafe..
Fed and watered, back to the car, and before long, the clouds started to clear..
And the first leg of the journey was complete...
Obviously, the only reason for coming here was because of the cheap petrol, so we duly filled up at the same station we stopped at the last time we came to Andorra on one of our “after tours”; the loyal readers amongst you may recognize the following image, although the price is probably different on the one we took a few years ago.. (prizes for anyone that can tell us what the price was back then)
Car juiced up, all that remained was for Mike and I to get coffee’d up, then we headed up the mountains to enjoy the views.
The views were stunning and we could see for miles. We think we could actually see Vienna in the distance..
We continued onwards, enjoying the views as we climbed..
..passing some cyclists...
And we were soon nearing the top..
Once here, we did what anyone else would do and parked the car at interesting angles and took some pics of it..
and of course a picture of the information board so you all know where we are in case we get lost..
Niceties out of the way, it was time to get to work and go in seach of our clue. A short walk later, and we think we found the answer – which was 1
Happy this was correct, we headed back down the mountain, and were soon heading towards familiar territory...
As it was by now approaching 10pm, we decided to stop and get a room in a Campanille in Foix, but unfortunately their restaurant had just closed. The nice lady did however direct us to a classy establishment just up the road..
..where we enjoyed a nice buffalo each. Well, technically it was chicken, but you get the picture.
As the bar at our hotel was also closed, Mike asked the friendly waitress in his best French if we could take some beers “to go” – she scuttled off to ask someone, then returned say that this was fine.
When she returned with our beers, she kindly asked us in hushed tones to put the beers in our pockets before we walked out of the restaurant so no one would see.
We can both confirm that freshly chilled bottles of Bud in your pockets is quite a shock to the system.
But it did the job, and we got them back to the hotel safe and sound.
Well that was pretty much our day in a nutshell, so all that remains is too give you the days route, upload this little lot, then work out how the hell we’re going to open the beer...
P.S. Nice try Martin, but no, its not a UFO OR a shiny knob... all will be revealed tomorrow!
