Day 11 – Dinan to St Malo
After our long busy day yesterday, a 9.30am wake up call was in order, ready to pop downstairs for breakfast by 10am.
After which, Day 10's update was done and emails sent (we notice that only my sister assumed that no update meant our survival was in question!), and after a quick look out of the window to check the view…
… we checked out and left our hotel behind us…
…. had a wander around the beautiful town of Dinan…
and stopped for crepe and coffee with the Constable..
Then we returned to the car to see if it would keep going just long enough to get to the garage we had seen the night before on our way into Dinan..
Unbelievably, we made it without Mike having to push! But only just; literally as we rounding the final bend before going across the bridge, with the garage in sight…
… the engine started to splutter. But it sorted itself out again as we straightened up.
We pulled into the Total Garage with much relief. And boy was the car thirsty…
(Not a bad fill for a 55litre tank)
After gratefully handing over our money to the nice man at the garage, we got back on the road, and before long we were arriving back where this whole adventure had started only 11 days ago…
We stopped in the Intermarche to buy a few bits and pieces, then rewarded the car with a quick Jet Wash.
Clean and full of lovely 98 octane European fuel, we headed onwards to the Port…
.. checked in for our ferry…
….and sat in the queue, reading the guest book entries that we had downloaded back at the Hotel.
MJ; we were quite amazed that you would even consider us the sort to "nick" a coke glass.
I mean, really, what sort of people do you think we are?
So, anyway, after typing some of this update, uploading the days exciting pictures, and plotting the complete route for the last 11 days, we were soon heading down the ramp once again…
…and making our way to our seats..
We watched a bit of telly..
..and before long, we were back on our beautiful island once more.
So, now, as the 2006 Jersey to San Sebastian Tour de la Liberation draws to a close, its time to say a few thankyou's and bore you with the usual exciting facts and figures!!
Firstly, I'd like to say a really big thanks to Mike for putting up with me – I don't know how he does it sometimes cuz I sure couldn't bare 11 days alone with myself! So thanks Mike! :)
Remembering that firstly and fore mostly, this trip starts off as Le Tour de la Liberation, which is in aid of charity, (yes, I know, its easy to think its just an excuse for us to have a merry jaunt around Europe, but no, its all about charity!!) thanks to all at CTS Computing Ltd for their generous sponsorship and support once again.
Thanks also to all of you that have sponsored us; don't worry, we'll both be coming around with a form trying to get the last few hundred pounds together towards our £1000 target! (please feel free to call, text, email etc with your donations, we take all cards!)
Obviously, thanks to Chip and Heidi for once again organizing a great Tour – we most definitely want to do it again next year, so we're keeping our fingers crossed there will be another one. And another one. And another one. (you get the picture Chip?)
Thanks to everyone who took part in the Rally for being such nice people, and for making the Tour such a good one.
Also, thanks to everyone who has put entries in the Guest Book – we genuinely look forward to reading them everyday (this is no reflection on how boring our days have been either!) – please keep them coming, we haven't yet reached a decision on our Guest Book entry winner, and trust me, the prize is worth winning!!!
Thanks to that Spanish man for poking a hole in a perfectly good (if somewhat flat) Yokohama A-046 (I wonder if my Motor Mall Total Care Protection Package covers me for a new tyre - Steve C, if you're reading, give me a call!! :) )
Also, for the first time in 6 years and 4 Lancer Evolutions', we can finally say thanks to Brembo for supplying brakes that worked brilliantly and haven't warped! (I still don't believe it.. Mike, pinch me, am I dreaming?)
One last thankyou; to Apple iPod – for inventing a device with enough capacity to store our complete CD collection on for listening to in the car – we probably spent more time choosing what to listen to than we did listening to it in the end!! (Sometimes, too much choice is a bad thing…)
Finally, on to the facts and figures;
We have covered a total of 2291 miles in the last 11 days (the most in one day being 423 – that was yesterday!
We have burnt our way through 485 litres of fuel (€600 Euro's worth!).
Our best consumption was 28mpg, our worst was 21mpg, and you're welcome to work out the over-all mpg if you're that bothered!
For all Evo 7 -9 drivers out there, if you try really hard, you can get 330miles out of one tankful of petrol – but I don't recommend it, its way to scary wondering just where you're going to run out!
Whilst not exactly interesting (but hey, was any of the previous bits?), here is todays route…
And our complete route can be found if you click here
That's it (you will all be delighted to hear!); another fantastic trip over, washings' already in the machine, and now time to relax for a few days before our return to work!
We sincerely hope to meet you back here this time next year, so until then, thanks for reading, and please… don't have nightmares; the chances of it happening to you are very unlikely..
Garry and Mike
